The Golden Book of Springfield (Lost Utopias Series)
Published in Paperback by Charles H. Kerr (2000)
Authors: Vachel Lindsay and Ronald Sakolsky
Average review score:

The High Priest of Illinois
The Golden Book of Springfield is a super arcane, esoteric gem!! It should be required reading in every Illinois school. Lindsey attempts to do justice to his home state, be creating a futuristic Illinios filled with life and dignity. So unlike the Illinois of his time or anyone elses. Lindsey has a deep knowledge of the occult which is apparent to anyone who reads this book. The book is steeped in the occult tradition, filled with magic and mysticisim.Like ancient vibrations coming off his midwestern landscapes. Lindsey was the real deal! Artist, poet, seer! Its like an Illinois Book of the Dead. This book will leave the reader with a certain level of aboveness, for those hip/sensative enough to appreciate what Lindsey is saying.
The fact that this novel (Lindseys only) has just recently been available after almost 70 years just makes it even more special.
Unfourtunately I do not think I have even barely shown has special and unique this novel is. Its better the psychedelics!!

Group Therapy: The Springfield Series Freshman Year
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (December, 2002)
Author: Ryan M. Johnson
Average review score:

Outstanding Novel!
After reading Days Gone By last year, I was intrigued by the story of these young students. Ryan Johnson seemed to capture the essence of college, without forcing too many details down our throats, allowing us to see things the way that we wanted to. With Group Therapy, Ryan has not only revisted the earlier material (and improved upon it's quality without destroying the story), but he has taken us deeper into Springfield University. An outstanding read from cover to cover. Pick this up and enjoy a nostalgic and accurate picture of the college experience.

The Lincoln Funeral Train: The Final Journey and National Funeral for Abraham Lincoln
Published in Hardcover by Cam-Tech Publishing (September, 2002)
Author: Scott D. Trostel
Average review score:

The Lincoln Funeral Train
This is an extraordinary accounting of the journey of Lincoln's funeral train and how America responded. From start to finish this is a detailed book with maps, photos and text following closely. Just not another dry book about the life of Abraham Lincoln. The author takes you there, through the big state memorials to the little trackside memorials and brief stops. The reader only need close his eyes to hear the train, the hymns and other demonstrations of sorrow. It is not hard to imagine the endless miles of mourners, the expressions of sorrow shown by a merciful and humble nation. Truly, this book demonstrates the extraordinary national observances of Lincoln and the first national funeral for a fallen president. A very impressive book and worthy of every library. The book is well assembled with color dust jacket and solid case. Worth every penny.

Manufacture of the model 1903 Springfield service rifle
Published in Unknown Binding by Wolfe Pub. Co. ()
Average review score:

Ref. material for manufacturing - not a collector guide
This book is a reprint of a study, entitled "United States Rifles and Machine Guns" by Colvin and Viall (1917), of the manufacturing techniques used to build the M1903 Springfield rifle. It is quite complete, including drawings of every part of the rifle along with gages, fixtures, tools, and production data. This book isn't a collectors guide to the Springfield but for someone interested in HOW the rifle was made, it provides detail available from no other source I know of. The data is provided without much explanation, so those with knowledge of machining will get the most out of the book.

Two other sections are included which are:
Reprint of "Instructions to Bidders and Specifications Governing the Manufacture and Inspection of the United States Rifle, Caliber .30 Model of 1903" (July 1, 1916) and:

Reprint of arcitles from "Army Ordnance" magazine (July-Aug 1928)

Paper back, aprox 350 pages.

The Nineteenth Amendment: Women's Right to Vote (Constitution (Springfield, Union County, N.J.).)
Published in Library Binding by Enslow Publishers, Inc. (January, 1998)
Author: Judy Monroe
Average review score:

Excellent reading about a very important ammendment.
The 1st amendment deals with freedom of speech, press, assembly. The 2nd is for the right to bear arms. We all know what the 5th amendment is used for and the 13th ended slavery. Some know that the 15th amendment gave blacks the right to vote. But do you know what the 19th Amendment did?

Most people will tell you that this amendment to the Constitution was one of the most important, it gave women the right to vote, and understand this is has only been 80 years since that amendment was passed. In this day of equal right, this is simply amazing that women have only been voting since 1920.

The book covers the founders of women's rights movement, like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, to Susan B. Anthony tireless efforts to get the Congress of the United States to pass legislation to give women the right to vote.

You'll read about the suffragetts to marches on Washington to how the 19th amendment effects our lives even to the present day. The book took just over 1 hour to finish and it was easy reading filled with little facts I was unaware of concerning the 19th amendment. Overall a very good book to have as a reference.

Rick Springfield
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (June, 1984)
Author: Simone Gillianti
Average review score:

betty's Rick Springfield the book review
I thought it was a good depiction of the man, it tells of his life before and after music, but it left a lot of wonder in the mind as to what was not told. I think that it could have gone a little deeper as to the life of the man as a musician and the man himself. It left so many questions unanswered in my mind and i am sure in the minds of all who read the book.
